Written Report
Adventure Skiing Awaits: Mount Belmont Chairlift Opens Tomorrow!
We’re kicking off the week in style! Yesterday’s storm brought 3 to 5 inches of fresh snow, and we’re thrilled to announce that Mount Belmont is opening today for Adventure Skiing!
Mount Belmont Adventure Skiing:
We’re excited to offer Adventure Skiing on Mount Belmont! Here’s everything you need to know:
- Ungroomed Terrain: Adventure Skiing is an experience unlike any other, offering ungroomed natural snow. Expect variable conditions, thin cover, and challenging terrain.
- For Experts Only: This terrain is recommended for advanced skiers and riders only. Beginners and intermediates should stick to lower mountain trails.
- Natural Hazards: Be prepared for exposed rocks, uneven terrain, stumps, or other unmarked hazards. These hazards can be difficult to see and require extra caution.
- Stay in Control: Ski or ride slowly and carefully. Always stay in control and adjust your speed to match the conditions.
- Bring a Buddy: Never adventure alone. For your safety, we strongly recommend skiing or riding with a partner.
- No Grooming: These trails are untouched by groomers, providing a rugged and exciting challenge for those seeking adventure.
- Expect Rocks: Hitting rocks is a real possibility on the Upper Mountain. If you’re not prepared to encounter rocks or thin snow, we recommend skiing other areas of the mountain.
Adventure Skiing is perfect for thrill-seekers who are comfortable navigating natural terrain. Please ski or ride responsibly to ensure a fun and safe experience for everyone.

The weather is calling for more snow throughout the day, with up to an additional inch forecasted. Temperatures will hover near 23°F with minimal wind, making for a fantastic day on the slopes.

Stay in the know:
- Stay in the know with Great Divide Text Alerts. Be the first to know about last-minute updates to our Operating Schedule, like weather closures, lifts, or parking. Text GDOPS to 406-630-6915 and get notices directly to your phone. This is not a daily alert text; these are designed for important alerts, and we anticipate at most ten texts per month.
Safety First:
When hitting the slopes for the first time of the season (and afterwards), remember these important safety tips:
- Warm-Up Properly: Take the time to warm up and stretch before you start skiing or snowboarding. It's essential to get your muscles ready for action, especially if you haven't been on the slopes since last spring.
- Know Your Limits: Don't push yourself too hard. Be aware of your skill level and stick to trails that match your abilities. If you're trying something new, take it slow and gradually progress.
- Helmet Up: We strongly recommend wearing a helmet while skiing or snowboarding. It's a simple but effective way to protect your head in case of a fall or collision.
- Obey the Rules: Follow the posted trail signs and obey all mountain rules and guidelines. Did you know there is a new Responsibility Code? Make sure you are aware of your Responsibilities when it comes to skiing/snowboarding. You can find all about the new code here.
- Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated, and don't forget to refuel with some snacks or a meal during your breaks.
- Emergency Contact: Keep your cell phone charged and with you in case of an emergency. Save the ski patrol's phone number, (406) 430-0110, and ask for help if you need it.
- Weather Awareness: Stay updated on weather conditions and be prepared for changing weather. Dress in layers and carry essentials like extra clothing, sunscreen, and goggles.
- Travel in Groups: If possible, ski or snowboard with a group or at least one partner. It's safer and more enjoyable when you have someone to share the experience with.
- Know the Terrain: Familiarize yourself with the terrain and trail maps. Avoid areas that are closed for safety reasons.
